adidas created the first all-leather tennis shoe, the "Robert Halliet", in 1965. Unfortunately, his career shortly fell into the shadows of Stan Smith - which prompted adidas to follow the new star. The Halliet was renamed the "Stan Smith" in 1971, which remains as you know it today.
